Julia Tzvetkova
Assoc. Prof. PhD, Coordinator of the research team

Julia Tzvetkova is an Associate Professor in ancient history and Thracian studies at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Her research focuses on Thracian history, politics and culture (2nd - 1st millennium BC), the interactions with other classical Greek and Roman communities, Thracian places of worship, historical geography of ancient Thrace, GIS applications in history and archaeology, Greek and Thracian numismatics.

Dilyana Boteva
Prof. PhD Dr. Habil.

Dilyana Boteva is a Professor in ancient history and Thracian studies at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”, whose research covers a wide range of problems of the history and culture of ancient Thrace. She applies a semiotic approach to the analysis of diverse sources, and when working with iconographic monuments she emphasizes on the implementation of databases and quantitative methods.

Ilya Prokopov
Prof. PhD Dr. Habil.

Ilya Prokopov is a Professor in the field of ancient numismatics, coin circulation in the Bulgarian lands, the history of money, exchange and trade relations in Antiquity, counterfeiting of ancient coins and the analysis of coin metals and stamps. He published a number of coin finds from the Bulgarian lands, as well as numismatic collections of Bulgarian museums. He teaches numismatics, expertise and evaluation of cultural values ​​at SWU "Neofit Rilski" and at UniBIT in Sofia. He is the director of the Laboratory for Expertise and Evaluation of Archaeological and Numismatic Values ​​at SWU "Neofit Rilski" in Blagoevgrad.

Alexander Grigorov
Assoc. Prof. PhD

Alexander Grigorov is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and director of the University Center for Information and Communication Technologies (UCICT) at Sofia University. His main research interests are in the field of artificial intelligence, e-learning, information retrieval, digital storage and consumer modeling. He has participated in 7 research and development projects of the European Commission and has more than 50 publications.

Lily Grozdanova
Assist. Prof. PhD

Lili Grozdanova is a Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Ancient History and Thracology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. Her main research interests are in the field of digital numismatics and the humanities. Her research is in the field of Roman provincial coinage and the development of the Roman Empire during the period of the "military emperors".

Julij Emilov
Assist. Prof. PhD

Julij Emilov is a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Ancient History and Thracology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. Focus on his scientific interests are contacts and interactions between different communities during the pre-Roman Iron Age (2nd - 1st century BC), in the geographical area from the Black Sea to the Baltic, the expansion of the Roman Republic and theoretical archaeology. In 2018 and 2019 he was the head of the field archaeological excavations in the Roman and Late-antique Almus (Lom).

Ivan Valchev

Ivan Valchev is an Assoc. Prof. PhD in the Department of Archaeology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. His scientific interests are in the field of ancient religion and specifically the religion in the Roman provinces of Lower Moesia and Thrace in the 1st - 4th century.

Vessela Atanassova
Assist. Prof. PhD

Vessela Atanassova is a Senior Assistant at the Institute of Balkan Studies with a Center for Thracology - BAS. She defended her doctoral dissertation in 2016 at the Sorbonne University - Paris IV on "Priests-Hmw-nTr in the cult of Egyptian deities." Her research interests are focused on the connections between Egypt and ancient Thrace: Egyptian influence in Thrace, Thracian onomastics in Egypt. She received additional qualifications for working with epigraphic material at the Franco-Egyptian Center for the Study of Temples in Karnak.

Valentina Grigorova-Gencheva
Assoc. Prof. PhD

Valentina Grigorova-Gencheva is an expert in the field of Roman provincial coinage, coin circulation in the Bulgarian lands, the history of money, exchange and trade relations in Antiquity, iconography and cults in Roman times. She teaches history of finance and investment in precious metals at VUZF University and "Cultural Heritage: Market and Investment" at Sofia University. Founder and director of the Gold and Numismatics Directorate at Fibank.

Alexander Ivanov

Alexander Ivanov is a PhD student in archaeology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The focus of his scientific interests is the archaeology of Late Antiquity (4th - 6th century AD), the Christianization of the city in the diocese of Thrace and the end of the functioning of the representative public urban architecture.

Nikolay Dimitrov

Nikolay Dimitrov is a PhD student in archaeology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". His research interests include the Roman period and the numismatics of Late Antiquity. His dissertation is dedicated to the religious life in the ancient cities of Serdica and Pautalia during the 1st - 4th century.

Marina Doychinova
PhD Student

Marina Doichinova is the chief curator and numismatist in the Department of Archaeology and Numismatics at RIM Sofia. Her research is focused on ancient Thracian, Greek and especially Roman numismatics. PhD student at SWU, Department of History, with a topic dedicated to the distribution of coins and coin treasures in Southwestern Thrace (1st - 3rd century). Her other interests are related to the analysis of the metal composition of ancient coins, modern counterfeits, web technologies applied in numismatics, museums and the database.

Nina Hadzhieva
PhD

Nina Hadjieva is a PhD student in the program "Archaeology incl. Epigraphy and Numismatics” in SWU and a numismatist at RIM-Blagoevgrad. Her research interests are focused on the coin circulation in Southwestern Thrace 6th - 4th century BC, registration, analysis and processing of single and collective coin finds from the valley of Sredna Mesta and Western Rhodopes with fixed GPS coordinates, performing elemental analysis for the composition of coins (authentic and counterfeit), blanks and melts and the integration of information into a database.

Nicolay Sharankov
Assist. Prof. PhD

Nicolay Sharankov is a leading expert in Greek and Latin epigraphy and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Classical Philology, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. His fields of research include ancient inscriptions from the territory of Bulgaria, social and cultural history and religion of ancient Thrace; prosopography of the Balkan Roman provinces; mobility of people and cults in Hellenistic and Roman world.

Atanas Georgiev
IT developer

Atanas Georgiev is a Chief Specialist in Planning and Information Technologies at the Information Services Laboratory at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University. He has solid experience in digital repositories and services, learning automation systems, open software development platforms and services, semantically based knowledge systems. He has participated in more than 10 EC RTD research and development projects. There are more than 20 publications.

François de Callataÿ
Acad. Prof.

François de Callataÿ is an expert in ancient Greek numismatics broadly speaking, with a high focus on methodology, who has devoted a substantial amount of his work to Thracian coinages. He is currently involved in several digital projects. One is already available: Fontes Inediti Numismaticae Antiquae (FINA wiki: https://fina.oeaw.ac.at/wiki/index.php/FINA_Wiki). Hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, it integrates 4,000 letters and many other unprinted documents produced by the Republic of Medals till 1800. The website allows a lot of queries through dozens of filters producing automatic statistics and maps. Two other projects launched in the frame of the ERC Silver (advanced grant: PI Francis Albarède/ person in charge of the dbases: Caroline Carrier) are in their initial phases: a database for all the die-studies produced so far for Greek and Roman coinages; and another for all the Greek cases of overstruck coins.

Ulrike Peter

Ulrike Peter is working on ancient numismatics in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Her main research interests lie in the ancient coinage and history of money in Thrace as well as in the neighbouring regions. Her research field includes also ancient iconography. She runs the Corpus Nummorum project dedicated to the digital transformation of coins and coin types for the ancient regions of Moesia, Thrace, the Troad and Mysia in accordance to FAIR principles. She is a member of the Steering Committee of 'nomisma.org' for the creation of internationally recognized numismatic autho­rity data.

Vladimir Stolba
PhD Dr. Habil.

Vladimir Stolba is an expert in various aspects of Black Sea archaeology, ancient history and numismatics where his primary geographical foci were the northern and western Black Sea coasts. Drawing on his interdisciplinary background, he currently works on chronology, typology and metrology of Classical, Hellenistic and Roman Provincial coinages produced in the Propontis. As a member of the German Corpus Nummorum Online team, he has also developed an expertise in digital processing of the numismatic data.

Hristina Ivanova-Anaplioti
PhD

Hristina Ivanova-Anaplioti is an assistant at the Classical Archaeology Division at the University of Zurich. She specializes in ancient Greek Numismatics with a focus on Thracian mints through her dissertation about Apollonia Pontica, as well as other research on the coinage synthesis in the archaeological sites of Kalapodi and Samos and coin circulation in the same areas. Additional interests include the containment of numismatic and exchange media in ancient sanctuaries and the data acquired by it in various fields of research.
